N-acetyl-L-tyrosine (NALT or NAT) is a derivative of L-tyrosine promoted for its supposedly higher absorption and efficacy.

L-tyrosine is an amino acid your body uses to make proteins, neurotransmitters, and other vital compounds. Your body can make it from another amino acid, phenylalanine. You can also get it from good protein sources such as cheese, meat, eggs, and beans.

Product Description

Due to the reduced solubility of L-Tyrosine, N-acetyl-L-tyrosine is an L-tyrosine molecule to which an acetyl molecule has been combined, to enhance the solubility and bioavailability of L-tyrosine.

L-Tyrosine is an amino acid involved in producing neurotransmitters such as dopamine and adrenaline.  Being a catecholamine precursor, L-Tyrosine can be metabolized in three ways:  1) it can be incorporated into peptides and proteins in the tissues, 2) deaminated to form p-hydroxyphenyl pyruvic acid, or 3) hydrolyzed into L-dopa.  L-Tyrosine is the rate-limiting step in the synthesis of other catecholamines like norepinephrine and epinephrine.

L-Tyrosine can help stress response mechanisms during acute and uncontrollable stress.  Unlike adaptogens that help alleviate symptoms of chronic stress, L-Tyrosine’s benefits regarding pressure can be seen during crucial, and sudden stress.  L-Tyrosine directly increases norepinephrine in the hippocampus and prevents stress-induced reactions in animal research.

L-Tyrosine may support a positive mood under stressful situations that deplete norepinephrine and dopamine from the brain (3).

L-Tyrosine can be food in chicken, turkey, milk, fish, yogurt, cheese, almonds, peanuts, soy products, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, avocados, and bananas.
